had the opportunity in sending Cricket equipment for the youth.

Low Cost Toilets
We are happy to announce that we have now reached the target of securing pledges for 100 toilets and majority of the funds have started coming in. As of now, 55 toilets are under construction and the balance 45 will commence before the end of this week, bringing the total to 100. We are grateful for all our family members, friends and friends of friends who gave generously towards this cause at very short notice.
Your generous contributions has eased the pain for couple of thousands of people.
Whilst all the zones are equipped with toilets, there is congestion due to the large number of people and there are new zones coming up to ease this congestion. Therefore, the need for addition toilets for both the existing Zones is as urgent as the need for toilets for new Zones that are being established. There were several donors who inquired from us what we plan to do after we complete the 100 toilets. We have also received several requests from the SLA for toilets for existing Zones as well as new Zones. After discussing the status with the SLA officers on site, we have decided to continue the project beyond the 100 toilets.
We are launching a fresh appeal to secure funds to build the next 100 toilets. Out of this 100 toilets, we will deploy 60 in the new Zone 5 that is coming up. The balance 40 will be deployed in Zone II.

Much more than just shelter in a box…………
Shelterbox donates 448 disaster relief boxes via Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka and the Rotary network in Sri Lanka
Shelterbox is a registered UK charity that provides emergency aid for victims of natural and other disasters anywhere in the world. ShelterBox works directly with local organisations in countries where disasters have occurred, in partnership with other aid agencies and through the international Rotary network.
Mike Greenslade (UK) and Dave Webber (UK) visited Sri Lanka in May and did all the groundwork, obtained all the necessary paper work with the assistance of Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka and got the ball rolling to commence the process of transporting 448 Shelterboxes to Vavuniya.
“The team has been working hard identifying where the greatest need is and making sure we have the right paperwork to start work on the ground,” says ShelterBox Operations Manager Pete Sykes. “I am pleased to say that we now have permits to start operating in the field
On 13 May 2009, 224 ShelterBoxes were distributed in Menik Farm (Zone 3) in the Vanni region to provide disaster relief to the IDPs. An additional 224 ShelterBoxes are due to arrive in Menik Farm within the next couple of weeks. ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) volunteers John Mackie (US) and John Cordell (US) supervised the distribution and worked closely with partners on the ground, namely local Rotarians, Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka, the International Organisation for Migration and the United Nations.
“We are working closely with our partners on the ground to get the ShelterBoxes despatched as soon as we can,” says John Mackie.
“We will be giving much needed shelter to the most vulnerable people who have been forced to leave their homes because of the fighting.”
“We are continuing to assess the situation on the ground on a daily basis and will send additional assistance if it is needed,” says ShelterBox Operations Manager Pete Sykes.
